Brett Hoebel’s Rev Abs And Afro-Brazilian Capoeira   by Phillip Tucker

I was in Minas Gerais in the heart of Brazil when I saw my first Capoeira roda. Late afternoon, and a circle of ripped, athletic people swayed and sang and played instruments as two of their number circled and danced in their center. They wore nothing but loose white cotton pants, and within moments their bodies were slicked with sweat. It was beautiful, strange, mesmerizing, and I have to admit it looked absolutely exhausting. It was only their extreme physical condition that allowed them to spin faster than the eye could follow, to kick out and leap into head stands. As I walked away from the demonstration, I remember shaking my head and thinking: those people were RIPPED.

Which is why it’s so exciting that Brett Hoebel’s new extreme fitness program from Beachbody called REV ABS features Afro-Brazilian Capoeira as a major component of its routines. Due for release in September when it will be made available by http://www.ExtremeFitnessResults.com, this new at-home fitness package promises to blast and shred your body until you’re left lean and cut, flexible and ripped. I’m sure you’ve heard those claims before, but REV ABS promises to do so using a martial art that’s been practiced for over 500 years, a martial art that leaves its practitioners as powerful and graceful as panthers: Afro-Brazilian Capoeira.

So what exactly is it?

When the slaves were brought from Africa to Brazil in the 15th century, they were forbidden to practice any martial art that might make them a danger to their owners. So, forced by circumstances, they adapted their fighting style into a dance form that they could practice right under their owner’s noses. At night around fires they would leap and kick and spin, their actions dismissed by the ignorant slave owners as mere ‘Dancing‘.

And indeed, if you watch a Capoeira roda (the name for the circle that is formed around the two combatants), it does look like a party. People sing, people clap, drums are played along with more traditional Brazilian instruments like the berimbau. The two contestants could be just dancing. But look closer. Leg sweeps, lunges, head kicks, elbows. If this is a dance, it’s a deadly one.

Brett Hoebel has taken these rhythmic moves and adapted them to his fitness routine. The benefits are obvious. First, even though you are exercising incredibly hard, it’s incredibly fun. Just jump onto Youtube and pull up a Capoeira Video, and see how much fun those people are having. Second, the kind of moves used are heavy on core strength. Just as in gymnastics, the variety of cartwheels, handsprings, sitting movements, turns, jumps, flips and large dodges are all dependant on iron hard abs and core conditioning. By bringing these elements into his training, Brett Hoebel guarantees that his Rev Abs will target your core like nothing else.

Brett Hoebel is an international fitness expert that has built an impressive reputation as a nutrition and lifestyle trainer in New York City. He’s trained numerous celebrities including Victoria Secret’s Karolina Kurkova, and is the co-host of Fit Family on the Discovery Channel, as well as appearing as a frequent consultant as a fitness expert on The WB Morning Show. Given his extensive background and expertise in fitness and exercise, Rev Abs promises to be an exciting, results producing fitness program.
